The Irony

Recently,I watched "Peepli Live". Its a wonderful movie.A satire on Indian administrative system, the so called 'sensational' news channels. While watching it though, you are simply immersed. The dialogues are filled with pun and are very sarcastic (not to speak of the rustic accent of villagers which strikes a cord somewhere).Though on a serious issue,it is full of laughter.Only when you come out of the hall you realize the enormity of the issue like I did (I hope so!:))

Irony was when we audience in a nice plush multiplex laughed at the sarcasm in the movie .Not really feeling their pain, their discomfort. We are cozily sitting on nice cushions whereas they hardly have a place of their own even to sit down!It is rightly said that the wearer knows where the shoe pinches.

Irony is when a farmer on the verge of committing suicide becomes an object of 'happening' news and people actually begin to ask him when he is going to die!( Including his own son!! )

Irony is when the Union minister for agriculture in the movie says the only solution for farmer suicides is industrialization!

Irony is when we are pained by circumstances but not in a position to do anything positive while those in the position do not even take the trouble to bother about it!

Maybe the situation is not as bad as what is shown in the movie. But it surely makes you think how rotten our administration is how adept everyone is at the blame game.

So it finally comes back to what we can do about it and are there any solutions.I once attended a talk on 'Indian democracy-from constitutionalist to populist'.A retired judge spoke about it and he too presented a very dismal picture of our country. He said that days are not too far when populist democracy will become mob rule (some were of the opinion that it has already).A person after the talk said,"I am very optimistic that our country will progress very fast and soon we will be superpower".To that the judge said "Sir your optimism is very robust and rowdy just like our country!".As for solutions,He said "There are very capable people out there who are better at this than me!".

So at last but not the least..Irony is when laws need to be made on controlling corruption and the very people who will be affected get to implement them!!

Jai ho!!
