The Semester that was...Part 3

This is intended to be the last part and let me warn you that it is not going to be structured. You will have to find your own way through the maze of memories and if you can, organise them and pack them nicely in your hearts!

It all started in the old sports complex. And it started right from me learning to hold the table tennis bat to making  myself the laughing stock of the place by my pathetic game! Thank god the 'pros' didn't mind it much as it gave them much relief from their 'oh i wanna win..or damn! thats the game point he made' schedule :D. I must say that even after their patient training, I still remain as bad as ever! probably it is going to take much more time than anyone thought it would! Just that one game of carom was enough to prove my mettle to all..what say?? :P
It was a funny feeling  to join the bandwagon of guys who were thrown out in every class of Electricals! Then I realised why there was a smile that seemed pasted on their faces whenever they went out! I spent the rest of the double class outside, attending dance practice and fooling around. Initially I tried getting back into the class but the teacher promised me attendance (which he did give ultimately!! ) So I saw no point in staying! :D
Then came a whole load of birthday parties ! Right from going to Resh's house to surprise her to Vippu's place as a surprise for her's and Sushma's birthday. These days having a surprise party is no longer a surprise! But the fun we have changes every time. Sushma, Chaitra and Niranjan too got their share of birthday surprises..hope they enjoyed it!
The world- cup fnals has been  the most discussed topic of the year.We all decided to watch the match together  but it turned out that we had a match of our own! :D Painted faces were just for the pictures. But obviously everybody watched the last gripping part.
Now coming to the studies part! Given that I had a hopeless teacher for electricals, I decided to take the help of my friends at PESIT who were done with their physics cycle. Harish and Manoj..I owe a lot to you guys for coming over and teaching me. If I get an S grade, it'll be because of you! :)
If I have forgotten anything to include, it is just that in all the excitement of writing posts. Please don't be offended and point it out by commenting..people will still get to know!:)
On the concluding note it has not been only happy as been projected. I had my share of very nasty fights ( most of which I started) , my close friends' group almost fell apart , people fought and made up etc etc. Might seem like regular affair but for me it was quite taxing at times. There has never been a  time with a greater emotional rigmarole for me.But as they say all is well that ends well! It has ended well and is signifying a new and exciting beginning..just waiting for all of it! I believe that bouquets or brickbats, whatever comes my way must have something to teach me, something to make me a better person and bring beautiful people to my life....

The Semester that was...Part 2

Campaigning and the rest! :P
We were pulled to publicize about  the science fest in other colleges. After the PESIT principal rudely threw us out by asking us to go back to college and attend classes (something that our very own teachers have never told us to ), we were welcomed by BIT. I decided that I am definitely not fit for campaigning! While Resh, Suhas and Shreyas did it brilliantly. It felt nice to catch up with Rishika and Anisha was such a sweetheart! After the wrap-up, we had a cool outing at that tiny ice cream shop where new  friendship bonds forged. Will forever remember that day...
For the first time, we visited a Newspaper's office and talked to them about them putting up articles about the fest. All the way to Deccan Herald's office on M G Road and back was a little tiring but rewarding nevertheless! Walking long stretches in the hot tiring sun was hard but with friends around, any distance seems short and no journey boring!

Jitters of the first science fest "Genesis'11"
The month of April started with mobilizing people to conduct the first ever science fest of the college. The word soon spread and people were quite enthusiastic. With initial hitches that we experienced, the preparations started in full swing! I  cannot name all the people responsible for making this event a grand success but the student coordinators took up a lot of responsibility on their shoulders, ran pillar to post for sponsorships, organizing, planning and leading us all. I was the in the crossword team an event that went on quite smoothly (finally!). It was a very rewarding experience to set up clues and answers, my very first crossword making that I thoroughly enjoyed. With a few of us working on it, the crossword turned out be pretty good and surprisingly nobody could solve them completely. But the event that stole the show was 'paper presentation'. It had participation from colleges outside Karnataka as well and was lauded by the faculties as the 'Most important event of the fest!'. All the other events- JAM, Quiz, Debate, Dumb charades, treasure hunt , solving the Rubix cube went on really well. The fest was a modest success. At least we laid a foundation for our juniors to conduct many more.

Outing in the rain..
I can bet that nobody is going to forget that day..while it rained so hard that people were scuttling for cover, we dare-devils decided to have fun getting drenched! With 2 umbrellas and an over sized jacket you can as well imagine what protection from rain it offered to 6 people!Splashing around muddy waters, we went to Gopalan Arcade for more fun. Those photos are on Facebook which all of you must have seen anyway. It was just so amazing!!

Getting mock 'Placed'
The second semester was a season of fests. The Department fests came in later ( with no 8th mile in April). It was an extravaganza when four department fests were held simultaneously. The whole college turned into a riot of colour. It amazed us how our seniors cleverly organised the whole thing. Surely we have a thing or two to learn from them.I just decided to participate in an event called 'mock placement' with a few of my friends but it was way too unexpected for me to win the second place shared along with Rakshitha Joshi (Psst..we still have that food coupon! ;) )Winning or no winning the event was a  pointer as to how the  real placements are going to be.But on the flip side, My cell phone ran out of charge, my plans for the day went down in drain and I went home completely tired!! It compensated would you say??

The story of the sem has still not ended..watch out for the last part that'll be more like an amalgam of more such memories. coming soon...:)

The Semester that was...Part 1

Its been a year at RVCE. The last two semesters have just rushed through. I guess the first semester got over with adjustment issues, coping up with the course load, making friends etc. Yet at the end of it there was  some gratification. All of us yearned to come back. We were all hoping for something good..but this good..no.. never expected!
The semester started with a bang! Especially for me.I went to the last bench and my comfort level  with people around just got better. I found some really awesome friends with whom I will happily spend another three years of my life.Love you Sushma , Reshma, Chaitra, Deshmukh, Nair, Suhas and the rest!! :)

Atmatrisha '11
The first event of the semster was "Atmatrisha '11", PESIT's annual cultural fest.It was the first college fest of my life which was a totally different experience. 'Junkyard wars' was where I collaborated with Sush and Resh to make a model out of straw and paper which withstood a weight of 2 kg! (Its great according to me..doesn't matter that we didn't get selected!) .The anthakshari prelims with Resh , Dumcharades with Sush and Resh , and that almost disastrous "Pentathlon" with Suraj were some worth remembering! Not to forget that cultural night with all my lovely friends..dancing away to glory and Niranjan dropping us all home later without telling his mom!!:P

'Genesis' of the science forum
Then we come to know that there is a " Science forum" which is almost defunct and calling for members. Most of us happily jumped in to organise the first function of the year..A speech by Our principal. There was loads of excitement making posters , inviting people , publicising the forum all in the hopes that our college will let us organize a Science Fest and HOD Prateek played the most important role in it!!  After bunking a lot of classes on the pretext of practise, forum work and so on began the onward journey of the forum. On this wayward path I got acquainted with a lot of people from other departments. And now I feel that I know atleast a few people in every class of first year. Well we did manage to pull off a pretty decent event and our teachers were really impressed with it. So we began pressing for a Fest..(More details in the next post!!)

Our "paper presentation"
Thanks to Prateek , we modified our last semester's chemistry seminar to present a paper at the PESIT science fest on 3 different types of batteries renaming it as 'Gen Z batteries' ( The details to the amount of fun we had while preparing for the original seminar will probably constitute another blog entry!!). But we  googled more & understood much more. After all convincing college chem HOD is different from presenting it in front of  a jury ( we almost felt that we fooled him last sem! :D).We went with an intention of checking out how a paper presentation is done and Voila! We end up with the first place which was a pleasant surprise.

Time for some "nautanki"
Meanwhile I auditioned for the "dance team" of the college and got through. It does deserve some mention. But apart from staying for a few practices nothing spectacular happened. There is more time to that lets see..
However those extra curricular activities I enjoyed at school ( after an almost 3 years' break) started coming back in a way I liked. It started with me auditioning for a role in a play my classmate Keshav directed for an Intra collegiate theatre fest called "Coliseum" .Though I was really not up to the mark, I managed to scrap off a decent act of an old lady "Mother Goose" that earned me the title 'Ajji'  :P. I must say that the practice sessions were lots of fun! Only our director had a harrowing time managing us! I proudly say that the audience was in splits with our acts , Shreyas got the best supporting actor award and Keshav got special mention for his direction! Next day too we watched a few plays bunking classes, almost caught by the teacher (she knew us well) and running along corridors..something that'll be remembered for long!! :)

Thats all for this part guys..next post coming soon!
