No points for guessing why this particular post came up! I have been planning to write this since a long time.Apologies for this long a gap.
We must be definitely bored of the cliche "Man is a social being" and that "Friends complete your life". I do not want to repeat the oft mention things about how precious and wonderful friendship is. Sure we do get reminders in the form of mails and forwarded SMSes some of which are really good and rest are boring that make you yawn.
Each one of us perceives friendship in a different way.The degree of attachment too is not the same. The numbers vary and so does every other thing that matters in this beautiful relationship.Friendship is the most non demanding relationship ever. There are lesser obligations but unknowingly more adjustment and compromise compared to anything else.It has reached such a state where just anything can be called friendship..be it the mother-son bond, sibling love or matrimony .While some of us like to draw boundaries and don't want to attach the same label to all of it, the others will just not mind what relationship they have until and unless its all working fine.
They say that as you grow older, the number of your friends decreases but the affection grows nevertheless. But as you change schools and colleges there emerges a totally new thing- friend circles. School friends in one, college ones in another, office colleagues and so on. However unsocial you are you will have different groups of friends. This brings another uncomfortable issue.. that of what is bound to happen when you have to entertain two circles of friends simultaneously.I have been in tight spots a couple of times and believe me, you must be on your toes to see to it that none of them feel left out.Even better is to avoid it!.
Woah wait!! your 'virtual' friends are around you, all the time-liking your statuses, photos, sharing links on your wall and chatting! But will they help you out if you are feeling down?forget that..will they at least speak to you properly if you happen to meet them 'offline'??Think about it!
But however large the number of your friends, you will have a few close ones with whom you can share absolutely anything on earth. No matter what you will still keep in touch with them. These are your precious ones.It so happens that we do not choose with whom we get closer, it just happens.
Now to the funniest thing..the typical stereotype of 'a girl and a guy can never remain just friends'. Nothing can be more laughable than that.Unfortunately many people care yet to come out of this notion.According to me its a load of 'BULL****'. :D I have met people who say..'you never know when its love and when just friendship .Especially if it is someone close to you all your feelings can change'. To this I don't really know what to say!
There is no need to define friendship.I feel nobody must even try to.It means a lot of things at the same time.We can all take a plunge without fearing the consequences (.there aren't bound to be any :D )Meeting new people, making new friends, holding on to the old ones is a necessity. Not just something you can't live without but something you will not want to live without.
I'm darn sure your friends mean a lot to you and so do mine to me.Thanks to the lord for all the beautiful friends I have.Take care of yours ! :)

great post! i'd say u could have edited out the beginning a bit.
ReplyDeleteand i would like to add something from a pooja bedi write up that she stole from elsewhere. that there are 4 kinds of friends: seasonal: who come and go, but do good [like teachers], distant: forever, but in heart more than in contact. near: friends to party with but not part everything with. best: icing on the cake.
idea is of someone else, but i put them in awesome words ;)
yea..true! I hope its atleast a bit clear towards the end of the post.
ReplyDeletenice classification of friends :)..doesn't matter if its a doubly stolen idea! :D
Good one! :) I liked the fact that you chose to write about things which actually happen when u have so many friends..loved the simplicity of the post! On the lighter note...i would've preferred one more letter without a star...so it would've been clear whether u were using BULLC*** or BULLS***! :D :P I know both mean the same..but the tones are a bit different! :P
ReplyDeleteThank you! :).I guess everyone goes through similar situations. Well...it can be either of them!:P..reader's choice! :D As long as everyone gets my point! :D
ReplyDeleteNice one! :) I was initially taken aback by the stars in your post, but thats a nice touch to give. ;)
ReplyDeleteBtw on virtual friends, I dont think they are meant to be friends at all! Its just like a contacts list named "friends" thats all.
suraj, not really...i have a couple of good ones and in fact its kinda weird and difficult to have friends of a very different age, young or old in the real world, but ol its easier and better. try that :P
ReplyDeleteP.S: especially if you want to know of other cultures and places...
@suraj..by virtual friends i also mean people whom you know but who don't talk to you face to face but just online :D. but the kind of friends sri mentions about are good ones to have!! and i also think given a chance to meet them 'really' they will still be good!
