My Beloved Kendriya Vidyalayas

Yes! Its plural as I attended 4 KVs (central schools).And it was such a wonderful experience!Here is some detail about them( you could as well Google it)

KVs are institutions owned by the HRD govt. of India. So they are

basically government schools.There are approxima

tely 800 Kvs in the country & are found in places with a central government establishment (like IISc, DRDO, Railways etc).There are also 3 Kvs abroad (Moscow, Kathmandu & Tehran).They were started with the main intention of educating the wards of central government employees & private sector people who are always on the move.

As people keep getting transferred, it is very hard to have long term friends & because of this we KVians can get adjusted soon!Also another reason is most of

the KVs are the same in spirit & ideas though the environment could differ.it is not tough for a child who has changed schools in the middle of an academic year to cope up as most of the teachers follow the same split-up syllabus.( it has happened 3 times with me!)

Kendriya Vidyalaya Railway Colony where I studied for 6 years!

Our schools are different in many aspects.we have strange holiday pattern & go to school even in April ( Much of a problem down in south).But April's all fun no studies even though it is the beginning of another academic year.The whole school is out of classrooms when practice for annual day is going on in that month!

After a summer vacation of 50 well counted days that extends up to 3rd week of June, we have plenty of cluster,regional & national level sports meets, social science & science exhibitions & of course studies.We had implemented CCE (continuous & comprehensive evaluation) even before CBSE made it mandatory which ensured that we studied throughout the year as each test counted.

Our social science exhibitions were a lot of fun which had all sorts of co- curricular activities.each year we had a country & a state from India as our themes.We did projects, dances, songs etc.We visited other KVs too.It was like a fest at school level.

I actually studied social science in Hindi for 3 years!!Then we had an option of studying it in whatever language we wanted.We learnt songs of all languages (18 listed ones).We met students from different parts of the country. In class 4 I had a Nepalese, Punjabi, Bengali, tamilian & so many more as friends. But we all spoke 2 languages..Hindi & English.So that is unity in diversity!

It was awesome mingling with the diverse crowd that belonged to all strata of the society.It is an experience worth mentioning.'The Hindu' published an article about the KVs regarding the recent 'Right to education' act.I'm really proud of this great group of institutions.

I'm sorry if it sounded like a KV promo. But getting a seat in the KVs for somebody from the private sector is a heavy task!I got it with great difficulty.I think I'm very lucky for that.I think it is wonderful if we have more such schools that admit the common non-government employee's wards and help the country in attaining betterment.
