India Against Corruption

Its all over TV, newspapers, blogs, tweets and status updates!!People gathering in large numbers to join in the protest, some fasting, some tweeting, some lauding the efforts of Anna hazare and the rest. All this signals something- that winds of change are blowing over  our beloved country India.
Forgive me because I'm not so politically inclined and can't write well about politics. But whatever I am writing here is just my very own opinion (however badly worded!!).
An event that should have taken place long ago started on April 5 .But better late than never!!It is being termed as India's second war of Independence.People came out on the streets expressing their solidarity with the activists who started the protest. The government tried to put them down offering some small incentives but they were hell bent on having what they wanted! Now is something we all can really look forward to..A corruption free India!

According to me, optimism is the right emotion to have!It did shake people out from their complacent shells making them realize that just accepting the present situation and going with flow will not get them anywhere! There was unity- people from all walks of life joined it.It was largely peaceful and it achieved its goal- of getting the approval for forming a committee consisting of citizens too  for drafting the Lokpal bill.

The real struggle however begins now says our beloved Anna Hazare. How true!!There is no denying the fact that the government will put in as many hurdles as it can it its path till it becomes a law and jails our corrupt politicians! However, our clever politicians will see to it that there are loopholes in the system to ensure their safe escape. So does that mean nothing much can be really done??Will all our struggle and work go down the drain? Will it truly eradicate corruption? These questions linger on and as time comes,we will probably get our answers.

But right now,we have a strong reason to celebrate! There are going to be numerous able heads who can cleverly chalk out the bill so that no one escapes. Its implementation also will be carried out with great supervision.Surely this alone will not work.Till we pledge to stop bribing through our way and stick to ideals thinking of the correct path rather than the easier one, corruption is not going to stop.Might be Utopian to put into practice but if each of do our bit I don't see what can really stop us from being a corrupt nation.

Whatever it may be but our politicians have gotten a strong message that people are the ultimate leaders in a democracy!Jai Ho!!

  1. Well written!
Btw i don't think this is a major event at all...the movement..the Lokpal bill was pending for 42 years. The Jan Lokpal bill, the proposed one, is an amazing idea, which I don't think will be approved by parliament just yet, just because the guy will then have a kind of 'ultimate power'. The govt's version of the Lokpal is a guy who is basically an 'advisory body', which is no good at all!!!

  2. @suraj-yes..d bill is pending from long long time..i completely agree with ur view abt d govt version..but yes, this is a major event..major not because its been considered..major because youth are awaken by a man.it was a much needed awakening as youth were either sleeping or busy using apps in mobiles..if anna, kiran and d main powers involved take d same stand as of now, there is no way govt can use it as they wish..anyways,indian govt dont want a egyptian like upserge..it wont happen.but with continued neglecting, its not tat far.a candle light can also burn a govt office down.

  4. excellent! :) totally agree with everything u've written..this event has surely grabbed the attention of all the citizens..the present and the future..alike! as u sd thnx to the media, new modes of communication, technology etc[the youth can use all this 4 good 2 :)]...as to watever effect this event is gonna have on the country's future...v can only b optimistic abt tht.."supervision" as u mentioned is really crucial over here...hope the reigns on this front r given to able, responsible ppl[obv doesnt imply politicians :P]
cheers to sir anna hazare for waking up the citizens of india from its habituated slumber in response to corruption! cheers to raksha for putting ur thoughts down so well! :D
    P.S- gr8 to c u being optimistic ;) :)

  5. Thank u all!
@suraj...we do know at what pace things take place in this country. Considering that, this movement gathered momentum in a nanosecond! surely not everything is old and something that won't work. true that the politicians have the final say but think of the difference lobbying and pressure on them to bring reforms (offering them incentives ) can make. A point that should make us happy is that v outnumber politicians..any day ( not hinting on anything violent ) but they cannot ignore us for long.
@Manoj... yea.. i agree completely!v need a continued strong stance. Though there is still a long way to go, our first step needs to be applauded!
    @ Anisha...:)

  6. This bill will hopefully have the same impact as the RTI act. I agree with you on the fact that LOKbal is a revolutionary bill. Though I dont support corruption in any way, there also exists this question - "Should citizens in the country hold the govt. to ransom by going on a fast to death which is unconstitutional. Tomorrow someone else may start a fast to death for some issue. That person may get the right of way even though the views expressed by the guy who goes to fast are not endorsed by the majority of the rest of the nation? "

  7. @Prateek: An Absolutely valid question!!
If everyone is with that fasting guy, then its democracy, people get what they want. If not, then that guy is put to jail for attemped suicide (i guess). Either way, it'll work out to be 'fair' and 'constitutional'.

  8. @Raksha: Yeah, looking at the mass hysteria this thing is generating, any politician who comes in the way of this bill will look like a villain in the eyes of public (read media), hence the bill has a good chance of getting thro'!

@Manoj MK: Well, what I think is that the youth were already 'awakened', they saw all the corruption news around them and saw that that was bad and something has to be done. One thing to note is that most youth who were protesting were only reflecting the national sentiment, most didn't even know about the Lokpal bill!!

  9. @prateek..fast to death may be just another symbolic way of protest but is definitely fruitful. But if u r suggesting that many people might fast for any reason and hold the govt to ransom, it doesn't work that way.The govt looks into only those which it considers politically threatening! take the case of Irom Sharmila..has the govt taken her seriously though she is on a fast for a really long time??

  10. @suraj- very true..i agree tat most didnt even know wat d bill was abt..but on the other hand, tat movement was surely a platform to know abt tat bill..we have been seeing news and stuff abt corruption from over a decade..i think this movement awakened d youth in a larger extent.sitting by a canteen and speaking abt it is surely not aweakening..right?

@prateek- dude..u have a good question out there..but i dont think its valid..wenever a person goes fasting,he need support of people..if he is not on a good path, none will support him..its too hard to find supporters in india.and fasting need determination.which most of the people lack..when fasting is against constitution, then d problem against which d fasting is done is also not according to constitution..so everything is fair to change something..

  11. @Manoj- Well said. But you seem to be happy about youth 'Awakening'. I think you are also a youth. There should be something different before we speak about other youths. what have you done differently? I took 40 guys from my side for protests for 3 days. I did my part what i felt necessary. What about you and other guys out here?
@ Raksha- You seem to be the author. Very well written. Its knit very well. Keep it coming.
