The title might look like a clichéd line from a health and well being magazine but I surely find it true!
Most of us are 'Maa ke Bigde hue laadle' (spoilt kids ).And our mothers and granmothers keep feeding us with dialogues like "C'mon..you are a growing child..you need to eat." ,"Oh!only so much??What is with you girls these days..??" .True that we must have sufficient food in our growing years but that doesn't mean stuffing mouths and stomachs till the extent of bursting!
On the other hand, many starve themselves (not due to non availability of food),or can't eat at the right time owing to work pressures etc.
I believe that I don't have to educate people about eating right (especially when I am not sure whether I am eating right). But I do strongly believe in fasting once in a while!
Arguments against go like this.....There is plenty of food for me to eat,it makes me feel weak, I can't control hunger and so on...
But in support, I can give 3 solid points..
1.It cleanses your stomach and gives your digestive system a rest. You might have indiscriminately eaten stuff the whole week (or month) .So now is the time to stop it.
2.Apart from health benefits, once you successfully accomplish fasting, you will have something to goad about! There is a sense of satisfaction that is very fulfilling and is a silent proof that you can control your cravings and make your body listen to your mind.
3.Most importantly ,you will know how hurting hunger can be and hopefully feel the agony of billions of people who are hungry all the time.Your heart will go out to them and makes you realize how lucky you are to have that food on your plate. What more, you will think twice about wasting food when millions are dying everyday and your not so favorite food doesn't go to the dustbin.
An overall sense of tranquility and heath engulfs you.Though it is hard to start off ( not just your own problems but also to convince mommy dear ) you can take a step at a time.Start by fasting once a month by possibly consuming some fruits or so and then slowly nothing when you know you are strong enough!
Try it and post your comments..Happy Fasting!!:)
