Noetic Sciences

Most of you would have read Dan Brown's 'THE LOST SYMBOL".The book no doubt is as good as all Dan Brown's if not the best! But a particular topic that intrigued me was this-'The Noetic Sciences".At first it seemed unimaginable,a kind of fantasy but not bogus as he perfectly states that all the facts of his book are true!

To those who seem at a loss...take a look at this definition from wiki-
Noetic theory or noëtics (from Greek νοητικός "mental" from νοεῖν "to think" from νοῦς – noûs) is an alternative metaphysical philosophyconcerned with the study of mind and intuition, and its relationship with a proposed divine intellect. Among its principal purposes are the study of the effects of perceptions, beliefs, and intentions on human consciousness."

If that sounded too technical..here is more explanation-
The theory of noetics centers around the idea that the human mind is capable of affecting work or events or even doing work in the physical world. It is suggested that thought and spirit are not, in fact, imaginary, but are Bose or photon based, meaning essentially that the mind can be quantified by formulae which describe quantum materials such as light. This is a radical conclusion, as many people consider thoughts to be weightless. Noetic theory claims that just as gravity affects all matter, thoughts do as well, although to a lesser degree. Psychokinesis, more often called telekinesis, is concerned with the direct influence of mind on matter.

So it basically means that thoughts have mass however less and a congregation of similar thoughts can bring about physical changes. Thus thoughts are extremely powerful!!.
But this is not all.The most surprising thing is that from the modern physics branches out quantum physics, then particles etc that  ultimately link with noetic science which is nothing but what our ancient books say(roughly)!!(Don't ask me how as I am also in confusion. Google it out or read the book.).It is like coming in a full circle.

 Noetic sciences have 3 branches-
1.Extended Human capacities
like creativity, meditation.states of consciousness, death dying and beyond.
2.Integral Health and healing
mind body medicine, global medicine(Guess reiki falls in here)
3.Emerging world views
like indigenous practices, cultivating spiritual awareness etc.
There is even an institute for this and researches have been conducted all over for actual proof of certain things like meditation can heal diseases, about the positive energy (aura) around you etc.

However the best thing that caught my attention was the question 'Does Human soul exist?"
An experiment is performed to "weigh the Human soul" the details of which are a tad bit technical but the structure is as follows...

A dying man is placed in an incubator sort of thing that can measure weight up to micro scale.the total contents of the incubator remain the same. But it was seen that as soon as he died, there was a noticeable decrease in weight!
So does that mean soul has weight and it escapes as soon as the person dies??will it find another body for itself??does it exist first of all??all sorts of questions are raised, conclusions are also made that soul exists by some, but some oppose it vehemently!A very interesting opposition  is here...http://www.noeticsciences.co.uk/in-response-to-weighing-the-human-soul/#more-819

I used to argue a lot with my mother about the ancient philosophy because to accept something without proof seemed non scientific. But here I find proofs which are still under battle!

It makes me wonder ....should I call it "Noetic Science" or "Noetic Pseudo- Science"???

  1. a very well worded post and im d frst t comm!:)

foa u cant call it pseudo science as its trying t get d backing of science. its nt like tarot wch has no backing. if dey had claimed wat they r telling as true, then its pseudo as they havnt proved it d conventional way.

by d indian philosophy, souls r absolute points with no physical attributes. thus one can nvr find mass charge etc, and thus perceive or ''see'' them. thus their physical existence is nt debatable as they dont exist ''physically'' nd thus d name spirit and hence ''spiritual''.

to thoughts having masses, seriously why are considering ourselves so impt? i mean we hav nt found out nybody like us nywhr n hw can we exp such a huge thing localised? if dats true, even animal thoughts need to be accounted for. but im nt denying dem affecting. may be d realm of their working, d senses required are absly diff. like i ve always bin thinking of sumthing cald psychological equns like dose in chem, to quantify them. but mass? its too primitive i guess.

  2. thank u!!:)..i was expecting it!!:P
by expressing a doubt as to whether i can call it a pseudo science is just this...that some proofs themselves are under debate.so that will partially mean that it hasn't exactly been proved.

by saying that 'souls' have no physical existence takes us totally out of the topic where noetic science is 'trying to prove that they do exist physically'.so do u think they will not be successful??just asking ur opinion nothing else!

yea..thoughts having mass does sound too primitive.but for this science it is the basic theoretical foundation as u cannot 'prove' anything without it having a physical something.some might even call it a form of energy(which sounds btr but its ultimately the same) but i'm not too sure either!and what i state are facts which this science considers and not my beliefs!!:)..but of course we are all free to speculate..and who knows..u might be able to prove them all wrong someday!

  3. Great post! And a cool new theme too!! :)

And yeah, even i've heard of those things where a guy got back his eyesight or something just by meditation (or something)! Kinda interesting... :)

  4. lol!!thanks:)..guy getting back eyesight seems too far fetched..but this is something at a much more higher level nd still in its initial stages..:)

  5. Good posts!! and i'm reading it all soo late :P
Noetics seems to be scifi, but there is reason to believe it carries "weight". It may not be weight or mass as we know it now but something different, after all we do lots of things based on "thoughts" of others dont we? where are we getting that from? its a force alright... and yeah i agree that its like the completing part of the circle!! :)Lot of work to do but its a start!!

  6. lol!!thats fine..:)..i know..If this goes a long way what we will tumble across is more than a guess.I don't even want to think about the results..it gets scary!!:)
